Hello! I am Salwa!
I am professor and former dean of Business. I am an accomplished teacher, scholar and academic administrator.

On these pages, I will tell you a lot about me, a brown woman, naturalized US citizen, daughter, sister, mother, partner, and, once upon a time, a participant in the transgressions committed by the academy.

I chose this picture because, in my mind, it symbolizes the reason why I started this blog.
The story goes: On Cinco De Mayo 2012, I was walking the streets in midtown Manhattan when I was approached by a young man who introduced himself as Brandon Staton, a photo blogger, and asked me if he could take my picture. I was so flattered –of all the “Humans of New York”—at this exact point in time he wanted to take my picture. So, I said “Of course. Where do you want me?” He said “Do you mind turning around.”
“I am sorry?” But I heard him the first time, and turned around I did.

It's a wonderful picture! No?
The comments on his post were very complimentary.
“She looks Regal”, “Daughter of kings”, “Great look”…
And one finally asked, “I wonder who she is.”

Welcome to Highbrowed me, where, ten years later, I am ready to answer that question.
